Mary Jo Creech Boston, a beacon of love and selflessness, departed from this world on August 19, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her. Born on April 25, 1940, in Corydon, Indiana, Mary Jo’s journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, her faith, and the joy of serving others. In Columbus, Indiana, surrounded by the love of her family, Mary Jo drew her last breath, concluding a life lived with purpose and grace. She was a cherished daughter to her late parents, James R. and Beatrice Rogers Creech, and a devoted partner to her late spouse, Paul E. Boston Sr., with whom she shared a beautiful marriage since February 28, 1961. Mary Jo’s legacy is carried on through her sons, Paul "Ed" (Amy) Boston of Columbus, Indiana, and David (Jane) Boston of Tallassee, Alabama, her beloved grandchildren Brook Boston Brown, Rachel (Luke) Eddins, David (Keeley) Boston II, Brock Boston, Amanda Lyons, and Amber (Hebrew) Wright, David (Sarah) Stroud, Angel Stroud, and great-grandchildren Sebastian Sych, Caeden Sych, Reese Eddins, Porter Eddins, Elliott Eddins, Ari Boston, Ashley Stevens, Raven Boston, Isaiah Lyons, Hunter Ledbetter, and Elijah Ledbetter, Eilan Wright, and Greyson Boston as well as her dear sister, Patricia Sue (Chuck) Creech Stouse of Georgianna, Alabama. She joins in eternity her grandson Hebrew Wright, siblings James E. Creech, Larry W. Creech, and Ruth Ann Creech-Burgess. Mary Jo's life was a testament to the power of nurturing and love. As a homemaker, she provided a warm and welcoming home that was the foundation of her family's happiness. Her time working for BCSC as a monitor on a school bus for students with disabilities showcased her innate ability to extend her maternal care beyond her own kin, touching the lives of many with her gentle spirit. Her interests were simple yet profound. Mary Jo found joy in crocheting, baking, canning, and was often found humming along to the soulful melodies of southern gospel music. Her actions defined the essence of unconditional love, always placing the needs of others before her own. Mary Jo’s faith was the cornerstone of her existence, loving the Lord and her Savior Jesus Christ with a fervor that inspired all around her. The greatest testament to Mary Jo's life was her family, which she nurtured with every ounce of her being. She relished the time spent raising her grandchildren, imparting wisdom and life skills that would prepare them for the world. She taught them the art of cooking and baking, but more importantly, she taught them the value of kindness and the joy of giving. A funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home. You may view a livestream of the service via the funeral home website. Her son, Pastor Ed Boston will be officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Mary Jo will be laid to rest next her husband Paul in Garland Brook Cemetery. Those wishing may make charitable contributions to the Salvation Army. Mary Jo Creech Boston was the embodiment of love, kindness, and selflessness. Her life was a masterclass in the art of caring, and she will be remembered as a woman who gave her all to those around her. As Helen Keller once said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they must be felt with the heart." Mary Jo's impact was such—it was felt deeply with the heart and will be missed profoundly. As we bid farewell to Mary Jo, we celebrate a life that was a true gift to us all. Her spirit will continue to guide and motivate us to live with compassion, to serve with a joyful heart, and to cherish the bonds of family above all else.
