John J. Ingellis

John J. Ingellis, 84, of Chestnut Street, died at 11 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. John graduated from Bristol High School as vice president of his class in 1946. He was known as "Magoo" Ingellis and was right tackle on the football team. He was a member of Phi Kappa at Tri State College in Angola, IN, where he graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. John was hired at Reliance Electric Company in 1954. He began as a Product Design Engineer with Reeves Division and was instrumental in the redesigning of their Mechanical Variable Speed product line. He took charge of the Test & Development Laboratory in 1957, and in 1960 was given the responsibility of Plant Manufacturing Manager. John ran the Reeves Plant from 1968 to 1973 and then was transferred to run the Master Plant for Reliance Electric and in 1976 managed Columbus, Indiana, operations. His responsibilities included Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, Accounting, M.I.S., Purchasing, and Employee Relations. Since 1982, his responsibilities were Manager of Corporate Manufacturing Services, and he was actively working with all Reliance plants, domestic and international, to implement World Class Manufacturing techniques. John was a member of the Reliance Manufacturing Council which represented over 40 operating plants with a total employment of over 13,000. He was a member of the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (A.M.E.) since its inception. He was Director of the Midwest Region of A.M.E. John retired in 1995 as Director of Manufacturing Services at Rockwell Automated. He was also involved in Rotary International. Born in Bristol, Conn., Dec. 27, 1927, Mr. Ingellis was the son of Victor and Mary Orzo Ingellis. He married Dorothy Deming Ingellis June 13, 1953. John was sought out by those who knew him for his sound and heartfelt counsel. He lived his life with a spirit of leadership and decisiveness and yet remained approachable to those around him. He was an excellent cook and consummate family man. He loved to fish and was known for finding just the right spot, and sharing it with those he held dear. He will be missed by many. Survivors include his wife; a son, Victor Ingellis of Carmel. IN; daughters, Denise (Danny) Goodin, Peggy Ingellis, Mary Ingellis and Lisa Ingellis, all of Columbus, IN; brothers, Patrick (Corrine) Ingellis of Old Saybrook, CT, and Bill (Sandy) Ingellis of Southbury, CT; sisters, Sandy (Larry) Morse-Druhan of Andover, MA, and Marian Ingellis of Morristown, NJ; and grandchildren, Joel Shrader, Matthew Shrader, Ava Hearn and Addie Hearn. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Phyllis Robinson and Carol Ainsworth. FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Thursday,January 12, 2012 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Father Clem Davis officiating. VISITATION: 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
