Thomas "Tom" Conway

February 4, 1935 - September 7, 2021

Tom M. Conway, 86, of Elizabethtown, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility. Tom was born to Martin and Mae Holton Conway on February 4, 1935 in Bartholomew County. He married his wife Mary Ann Jones on September 22, 1962. Tom was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. He retired from Cummins Engine Company after 32 years of service. Tom was a man in constant motion, but never too busy to share a beer with anyone who pulled in his drive. He was always happy to share a story and a smile. When he enlisted in the army, he was assigned to be a cook in a mess hall, and carried those skills the remainder of his life. There are lots of great memories surrounding the annual Conway chili party that he and his family hosted for over 25 years. Tom would move heaven and earth to help his family, lending a hand in construction on houses, building furniture, mending fences, and helping chase cows when they got out of the pasture. His grandkids were the brightest spot in his life and he followed every sport and activity they were involved in. His happiest times were when they would visit and share what’s going on in their lives. Tom set a great example of how to age with dignity and honor. Tom is survived by his wife Mary Ann; daughters Michelle “Shelly” (Dan) Myers and Kelly (Tony) Darnall both of Elizabethtown, Indiana, and Tina Conway Springer of Noblesville, Indiana; grandchildren Andrew Darnall, Lauren Cole, Faith Myers, Rhett Myers, Thomas Myers, Madeline Springer, and Jack Springer. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Jim Conway; as well as a sister Glenna Malone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2021 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Chris Wadelton officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Burial will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitors are required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing. Memorials may be made to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
