November 30, 2021
Sheryl L. Arthur, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at her residence in Columbus. Sheryl – Sherry to everyone who knew her – leaves behind memories of her boundless love, positivity, generosity, and humility. Sherry truly believed that anything was possible for anyone if they just worked hard and stayed focused on your goals you could achieve it. She was constantly cheery, always smiling even if there was no apparent reason to be so. She was truly selfless and routinely dug deep to help a stranger, even if she didn’t have much to give. She truly wanted for nothing in life other than a warm place to sleep and enough to get by, but she was always grateful for the blessings she had. It was in her relationship with her family and others where Sherry’s true character shone through. She spent hours playing with, snuggling, reading to, singing to, painting with, and doing pottery with her four grandchildren. She loved to visit the beach – preferably a beautiful sandy spot on the Gulf of Mexico – and visit the mountains. In her spare time, she loved shopping for antiques, watching cooking shows, fishing, cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, cooking for her friends and family, watching movies at drive-in theaters, and exploring new cities. She could be heard singing Queen and the Eagles, and she loved watching movies of all types – especially Disney and action movies. But of all her interests and passions, her family will remember her role as a grandmother the most. She was their beloved Mam to four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Victoria, John David, and Laityn. She adored each of them and would do anything and everything for them. She fell in love with each one the instant they were born. It never mattered how bad she felt, how busy she was or how difficult things were; she jumped at every opportunity to see the kids and spend time with them. Sherry was born November 9, 1960 in Decatur County, Indiana, a daughter of Charles E. “Charlie” Hedrick and surviving Barbara “Barb” Golob Hedrick. Her father worked for Cummins for about 30 years and passed away in 2004. She graduated from Columbus East High School in 1979, where she began dating James Douglas Arthur, Jr. of Columbus. She passed away the day after their 41st wedding anniversary. Together, they had two children – James Douglas (Kortnee) Arthur III of Hendersonville, TN, and Daniel (Rachel Rager) Arthur of Columbus. Sherry worked for more than two decades for Jay C Grocery stores, where she started in a part-time role as the person passing out free samples and worked her way into a management position. She and her family were members of the Ogilville United Methodist Church. She is survived by her brother, Ken (Lori) Hedrick of Columbus; and sister, Brenda (Mark Wolfe) Hamilton of Columbus. Visitation is 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Friday, December 3, 2021, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home 8355 25th Street Columbus, IN with memorial service starting at 6:00 PM. Pastor Wes Jones will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Foundation, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
