Mrs. Sharon K. Hembree, of Taylorsville, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2021 at her home. Sharon was born in Columbus, Indiana on June 9, 1944 to Logan and Margaret Ping. She married Lonnie C. Hembree on March 20, 1964. They were married until her death, a blessed 57 years. Sharon and Lonnie traveled the world early in their marriage. They later became charter members of the Hoosier Mustang Club and traveled together with their children many weekends to attend car shows and other events. Sharon loved to bake for others. She was famous for her fudge and known as the “cookie maker” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A dear friend to many, Sharon was known for her strength, something she demonstrated in her courageous fight against cancer. Sharon is survived by her husband, two sons Timothy Hembree and Kenneth (Ruth) Hembree, a step-daughter Delores (Craig) Keating; four grandchildren, Shelby (Joseph) Sandberg, Christopher Hembree, Megan (Devin) Schott, Genalea (Brandon) Cross, bonus granddaughter, Courtney Hembree, step-grandson Jeremy (Jackalyn) Johnson and step-granddaughter Paige (Kellis) Tait; seven great-grandchildren, Joelle Sandberg , Hudson Hembree, Holden Hembree, Forest Schott, Isabella Cross, Elizabeth Cross, Oaklea Cross; and two great step-granddaughters, Chloe and Alyce Johnson and four great step-grandsons, Rhett, Jensen, Beau and Jackson Tait. Sharon is also survived by one brother, Donald Ping, three sisters, Linda (William) Carothers, Wanda Deweese, Marlene (Ronald) Cross and several nieces and nephews. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, a sister-in-law, Marialice Ping, and a brother-in-law, Robert Deweese. Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. noon on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th St. Columbus, IN 47203 with Pastor Peggy Caldwell officiating. Calling will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Sandcreek Friends Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or the Sandcreek Azaila Friends Church.
