Max Dean Wineinger

Max Dean Wineinger 90, of Columbus was called home to be with the Lord on December 14, 2020. He was born July 25, 1930, the son of Melvin and Nora A. Phegley Wineinger. He married Jewell May Corn January 18, 1953, and she preceded him in death on November 25, 1989. Max always had a bright smile, a warm hello, and a welcoming hug or handshake for everyone he met, and he forgot noone. Max was born in Jackson County and lived there until moving to Bartholomew County in 1969. He retired from Cummins Engine Company after 36 years of service. He loved honest work and farmed and ran a small dump truck business to keep himself busy. He was a member of Lakeview Christian Church and was Past Master of the Elizabethtown Masonic Lodge as well he served in the U.S. Navy. Faith, Family and Friends is what he has focused on the last several years. The family would like to thank Carolyn, Randy, Faye, Steve, Phyllis and Jerry for their many acts of kindness and the Legacy team (Amy, Cindy, Darlene, Laura, Morgan, Teresa, Sandy, Nicole, Julie, Liam, Alicia, Eńa) at Silver Oaks for the care and compassion shown to our Father the last weeks of his life during this Pandemic. Also a special thanks to his hospice nurse, Jessica. Heartfelt thanks to Debbie Salyers(daughter) who has coordinated all his care over the last 8 years of his life. Due to the global pandemic, the funeral service will be attended online only. Services will be Tuesday December 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. on the Jewell- Rittman Family Funeral Home website (www.jewellrittman.com) with Rev. F. Doran Chambers officiating. The family appreciates your understanding and encourages you to join them for the ceremony. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military honors by the Bartholomew County Veteran’s Honor Guard. A public celebration of Max’s life will be held in 2021. He is survived by his son Kevin Wineinger of Seymour and daughters Debra (Michael) Hollinger-Salyers of Bargersville and Lisa M. (John) Brandt of Carmel, grandchildren, Scott (Jenny) Hollinger, Shauna (John) Sidhom, Deven Wineinger, Gabriele Brandt and Isabel Brandt; great grandchildren, Madison Hollinger, Morgan Hollinger, Mia Hollinger, Grace Sidhom and Owen Sidhom; and brother Melvin Wineinger Jr. of Toledo, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Jewell; his parents, Melvin and Nora Phegley; and brothers, Roy Leonard Wineinger, Carl Salyers, Malcom Wineinger and Joseph Wineinger and sisters, Opal Hanlon, Ruth Smelter, Mabel Fleetwood, Esther Aynes and Faye Combs and also special friends Marjorie Montgomery and Alta Morris.
