Carmelita A. Jump

Carmelita A. Jump, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away on June 30, 2024, at the age of 80 in Columbus, Indiana. Born on December 5, 1943, in Anniston, Alabama, to the late Thomas W. Johnson and Maryan Cooper Johnson. She married Rondal W. Jump on November 28, 1968, and after 49 beautiful years together, he preceded her in death on July 13, 2018. Carmelita led a life rich with love, laughter, and a profound appreciation for all the blessings around her. She leaves behind a legacy of gentle warmth and perseverance, cherished by her beloved daughters, Sherri (Paul) Henderson, D.D. (Darren) Hinton, Tammi (James) Turner, and Cindy (Butch) Flint, as well as her adoring 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. While she rejoins her husband, her twin sister Lolita Johnson, and grandsons Justin O'Connell and Aaden Davis in the embrace of eternity, she will be forever remembered for the compassion and boundless love she shared with her family throughout her life. She was a member of Columbus Baptist Church For over 25 years, Carmelita served her community with a welcoming smile as a Sales Manager at J.C. Penney. Carmelita’s interests reflected her zest for life and the simpler pleasures. She found happiness in playing the piano, embarking on camping adventures, uncovering treasures at yard sales, and shopping at Goodwill. Yet, what she cherished most was sitting on her deck, embracing the beauty of nature, and spending precious moments with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Jewell–Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rob Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Garland Brook Cemetery. Described by those who knew her as loving, kind, and gentle, Carmelita exemplified the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Carmelita's memory and her gentle spirit will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
