William "Bill" Ray Riche

In Loving Memory of William “Bill” Ray Riche August 27, 1949 - December 8, 2025 A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bill Riche cherished quiet country days—a good cup of coffee and apple crisp, good stories, sun‑room games, and porch visits filled with family. He teased often, always kindly, and his quick wit and signature grin brought easy laughter to everyone around him. William Ray Riche, 76, of Columbus, Ind., joined his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 8, 2025. He was born on August 27, 1949 in Kokomo, Ind., to Dorothy Mae (Vaughn) Riche and Raymond Earl Riche. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Phyllis Ann Riche of Columbus, and children Samuel (Epha) Riche of Greenwood, Erica (James) Downs of Hope, and Steven (Kimberly) Riche of Columbus; brother James (Joyce) Riche of Bluffton, South Carolina, and sister Mary Ann (Mike) Riche of Walden; grandchildren William Riche, Benjamin Riche, Kristin Keith, Evan Keith, Clara Riche, and Lucy Riche; and many loving nieces and nephews. Rooted in faith, Bill and Phyllis were longtime members of Garden City Church, serving faithfully for many years. Together, they volunteered at the Love Chapel food pantry each week, showing up with humble hands and open hearts. Their marriage was a model of steadfast love and grace—a God‑honoring union that became a living example for their children and grandchildren. Bill could make anyone laugh, but the sweetest laughter was always Phyllis’s; he had a way of sparking her giggle and the radiant smile that fills a room. Bill’s career reflected the same dedication and quiet excellence. He spent 42 years at Cummins, Inc., starting in the mail room and steadily working his way up as he pursued night classes at IUPUC in Columbus to become a manufacturing engineer. By the end of his career, he was an expert in his field—traveling the globe for Cummins to share knowledge and solve problems with the patience and precision that defined him. Around town, he seemed to know everyone, and every outing brought a familiar face. An engineer at heart and a craftsman by love, Bill had a clear vision for how things could come together, and he brought that vision to life through woodworking—shaping tables, chairs, and chess boards that were as sturdy as they were beautiful. These pieces were more than wood, they were gifts of time and care, meant to gather people and spark connection. Bill’s legacy is one of faith, family, service, and joy. And the pursuit of the best donut in town. He taught us to show up for one another, to laugh easily, and to notice the quiet beauty that’s always right in front of us—on the porch, at the table, in the small moments that become our most cherished stories. We will carry his kindness forward, remember his gentle humor, and honor the life he lived by loving well. Visitation will take place from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home in Columbus. Service will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Virgil Clotfelter officiating.
