Wilford Lee Lutes

Wilford "Bud" Lutes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, in Indiana, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 27, 1936, in Freetown, Bud was a man of integrity, intelligence, and a warm sense of humor that drew people to him. He was a proud alumnus of Purdue University, where he earned his Bachelor's in Science and where he also met a young secretary by the name of Jennie Goll. They were married on August 23, 1958 and enjoyed 66 years together. Bud's life was a testament to the value of hard work and community involvement. Bud's professional journey was marked by his dedication as an employee at Cummins and his service as an auditor to the state of Indiana. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident to all who knew him. Beyond his professional achievements, Bud's life was enriched by his deep involvement in various associations. He was a respected member of the St. Johns Lodge #20, where he served as Past Master and was a 58-year member. His leadership extended to the Columbus York Rite Bodies as a Past Presiding Officer, and he was honored to be a Past Grand Royal Patron of the Order of Amaranth, Alice Court #30. Bud's dedication to the Order of Eastern Star was recognized during his tenure as Past Patron of Columbus Chapter #339. Bud's commitment to the Masonic community was further demonstrated through his engagement with the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in the Valley of Indianapolis, the Knights of the York Cross of Honor at Robert A. Woods Priory #62, Marvin L. Isley York Rite College #129, and the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem at Indianapolis Shrine #6. As a Past President of the Columbus High Twelve Club #337, Bud's leadership and fellowship were valued by all. A man of faith, Bud was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church for over 65 years. His spiritual life was the cornerstone of his existence, guiding his actions and interactions with others. Bud's personal life was filled with joy and love, shared with his beloved wife, Jennie, and their children. He was a guiding light and source of unwavering support for his son, Daniel Joseph (Stacy) Lutes of Woodstock, Georgia, and his daughter, Laura (David) Pruitt of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Jared and Ryan Lutes and Alexander and Dustin Pruitt, who will carry forward the values and lessons he instilled in them. Though Bud is now reunited with his predeceased brother, Jim Lutes, his memory will live on in the hearts of those he left behind. His family will forever cherish the memories of a life well-lived, filled with laughter, wisdom, and an abundance of love. Bud's departure leaves a void in the lives of many, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments and service but for the kindness and generosity he extended to everyone he met. An Amaranth service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2024 at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling hours are from 1:00 until the time of the service. Immediately following will be a Masonic Service and funeral service with Pastor Howard Boles officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery near his parents. Services were entrusted to Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home.
