Maygan Barclay Bayles

Maygan Barclay Bayles, 37, left this life Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Franciscan Health Indianapolis. Maygan was born February 24, 1984 in Provo, Utah to loving parents Thomas Ray and Christy Jo Ellis Barclay. She is a wife, a sister, an aunt, a daughter, a teacher, a gymnastics coach, a friend, and a Child of God. She is energetic, driven, spunky, full of life, and gave her all at anything she endeavored. A lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and has a personal testimony of the Gospel. She has a deep understanding of Father’s plan and that families are forever. She loved to teach it to the younger generations to carry on God’s word. Throughout her childhood Maygan loved many sports including gymnastics, cheerleading, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and swimming. After high school, she attended IUPUI and graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in IPS, Warren, and Franklin Central Townships. She was blessed to find the love of her life, Joseph Alan Bayles and they were sealed on December 12, 2015 in the Indianapolis Temple. They made their home in Indianapolis, Indiana. She loved the beach, “glamping”, playing games, hiking, singing, dancing, musicals, and spending time with friends and family. Her husband and her family were the center of her world and she loved them with her whole heart. She loved all children and would do anything for her nieces, nephews, her gymnasts, and her students. Maygan possessed many talents including playing trumpet and piano, cooking, and baking. She was known for her butterscotch cupcakes and caramel popcorn. She was a talented artist and loved crafting, drawing, and painting, and mastered anything she tried. She was always willing to open her home to all. Maygan is survived by her husband, Joseph Bayles; her parents, Thomas and Christy Barclay; her grandfather, Larry Ellis; her brothers, Jed (Robbyn) Barclay of Bloomington, Aaron Barclay, and Chris (Kara Paul) Barclay, both of Indianapolis; her sisters, Jenny (Michael) Oden of Greenwood; Kim (Matt) Wilke of Oolitic, Indiana, Natalie (JR) Clark of Morgantown, and Sarah (Chris) Schooley of Hope; and her nieces and nephews, Jayare, Jaylynn, Jayce, and Jay Rush Clark, Charlie, Sumner, Waylin, and Tess Barclay, Chaela Castro, Addison and Spencer James, and Lincoln Bayles. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carolyn Smith Ellis, Michael Barclay, and Ruth Howell Barclay. A funeral service for Maygan will be held Thursday, June 10 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (3330 30th St. Columbus, IN 47203) with Bishop Jonathan Merrell officiating. Burial will take place at New Harmony Cemetery in Bartholomew County. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
