Louis Nie M.D.

Louis W. Nie M.D. September 01, 1916 - February 12, 2010 Louis W. Nie, MD, a long time resident of Indianapolis and recently of Four Seasons Retirement Community in Columbus, died on Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Hospice of South Central Indiana inpatient facility. Dr. Nie was a 1937 graduate of Indiana University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1939. From 1942 to 1946, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army. Dr. Nie was a psychiatrist in private practice in Indianapolis for 46 years before retiring in 1992. He was a former member of the faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and a former examiner with the American Board of Psychiatry. He was also a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a former Board Member of the Indiana State Medical Association and served as President of the Methodist Hospital Medical Staff. Dr. Nie served on the Board of the Indianapolis Symphony Society and was a member of the Indianapolis Museum of Arts Fine Arts Committee. He was a long time member of the Woodstock Club in Indianapolis. Born in Huntington, IN on September 1, 1916, he was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Grover M. (Hazel S.) Nie. He was married to the late Eldreda (Dede) Brash Lowe on October 9, 1943. Surviving are his children Dierdre N. (Allen) Good of Goodyear, AZ, William L. (Sukey) Nie of Columbus, Deborah N. McPeek of Granville, OH, and Douglas M. (Patricia) Nie of Albuquerque, NM; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie E. McLain Sainsbury and son-in-law, J. Rodney McPeek.
