Lindley (Hoppy) Loyd King, a beloved spouse, dad, papal, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, in Bartholomew County, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 12, 1958, in Johnson County, Indiana. Hoppy was preceded in death by his parents, John King and Helen McElroy King-Vanarsdale, his son, Shawn, grandson Christopher, granddaughter Sarah, siblings Christopher, Ronnie, Donnie, Johnny, Martha, Mary Alice, Janice, Kathleen, and Linda in eternal rest. Hoppy is survived by his devoted spouse, Tamara (Tammy) Kay Miller, his children: April King, Rachel King, and Kayla Miller, Grandchildren, Cody, Caleb, Nicholas, Cierra, Emma, and Jocelyn, great-grandchildren Reanna, and Aria, siblings Larry, Steve, and Kenny. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Tino and Peanut, who will miss the car rides and daily walks they shared. He was a good dad and an even better "Papal," a title he wore with pride. He would do anything he could for them, and they knew it. He cherished every moment spent with them. Hoppy met Tammy in 1989 at the Holiday Inn, and from that moment on, they were inseparable. Their love was a testament to the bonds of partnership and friendship, and they shared countless happy memories together. In his professional life, Hoppy retired from Sacoma International in 2023, where he worked as a machine operator. His dedication to his work was evident, and he was respected by his coworkers. Hoppy loved the time he got to spend with family & friends. He also loved the great outdoors, often spending time camping and fishing, and he loved the beauty of the Smoky Mountains. He enjoyed taking country rides and would often find himself at the casino, where he embraced the thrill of chance and often found himself lucky. He was a fan of wrestling and NASCAR, particularly an enthusiast of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Sr. Those who knew Hoppy will remember his unique personality, and the way he would speak his mind with no filter whether intentionally or not, he couldn't help it. He had a knack for making those around him laugh, often heard saying “miller” or “huh” in his playful manner. His stubbornness was part of his charm, and his blue eyes reflected the love he had for his family and friends. Hoppy's funeral will be held at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, with Pastor Ed Boston and Rev. Ricky Burton officiating. A showing for family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025 and one hour prior to his service, honoring the life of a man who meant so much to so many. As we gather to celebrate Hoppy’s life, though he has left this earth, the memories we created with him will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, Hoppy. You have made a lasting impact on all of us, and you will be deeply missed. Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
