Judith E. Youngblood

Judith Elaine Youngblood, born March 14, 1942, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025. Judy was the cherished daughter of the late Robert and Mary Elizabeth (Spencer) Lewis of Cayuga, IN. She graduated from Cayuga High School in 1960, and Utterback & Brown Business College in 1962, setting the foundation for a life dedicated to her family, her community, and her passion for education. Judy married her high school sweetheart, John Robert Youngblood, on December 29, 1962. Their 63 years of marriage were a testament to their lasting love and deep commitment to one another. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the cherished tradition of Sunday night pizza, a ritual that began while living in married housing at Purdue University and continues today. Their move to Columbus, IN, in 1964 marked the beginning of a new chapter for Judy and John, where they planted deep roots and built lasting friendships that would endure for decades. During their time in Columbus, Judy began working at Cummins, initially as a purchasing agent before transitioning into a role as an administrative assistant. Her time at Cummins was characterized by her professionalism, strong work ethic, and the many meaningful relationships she formed with her colleagues. A true caretaker at heart, Judy devoted herself not only to her family but also to her life’s work—teaching. Whether in her roles as a teacher's aide at Clifty Elementary or as a preschool teacher at First Christian Church, Judy's love for nurturing young minds shone brightly. She found immense joy in helping children learn and grow, and her kindness and patience left a lasting impact on countless students. Judy took pride in being the foundation of her family. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, a best friend to many and a doting grandmother. Her family always came first, and she was the heart of every family gathering, making sure that love and laughter were ever-present. Judy’s nurturing nature extended to every corner of her life, making those around her feel cared for, valued, and deeply loved. She also made time to enjoy life to the fullest. She was an active member in Merri-Makers Bartholomew County Extension Homemakers Club for many years, where she formed lifelong friendships and gave back to her community. She also loved being a part of her local Bridge Club, participating in a bowling league and playing tennis. Judy is survived by her loving husband, John Robert Youngblood; her daughters, Janet Youngblood Hiatt of Indianapolis and Jennifer Youngblood (Greg Holman) of Columbus; her granddaughters, Julia and Audrey Hiatt; and her brother, Mike Lewis of Danville, IL. She was preceded in death by her brother, David (Marlene) Lewis of Covington, IL, and her son-in-law, Arthur W. Hiatt. A celebration of Judy’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor the extraordinary woman she was and the life she lived.
