Janice Annette Skinner, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, at 85, in her hometown of Columbus, Indiana. Born on November 28, 1939, in the same welcoming community to parents Oliver Robert and Virginia Rose Wilson. Janice's life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit and unwavering commitment to her family and those she served. She married the love of her life, David Ray Skinner, on January 15, 1961, He survives. Janice's professional journey was marked by her tenure at First National Bank and JCPenney, where her passion for fashion and shopping shone brightly. Her role at JCPenney was more than a job; it was an extension of her love for helping others, as she often used her shopping trips to buy clothes for children at her church. Her dedication to service was further exemplified by her long-standing membership at the Sanctuary, which she joined in 1964 and where she remained an active and cherished member for over six decades. Known for her culinary talents, Janice will be fondly remembered for her delicious potato salad, second-to-none peanut butter fudge, and the family favorite, Lazy Daisy Oatmeal Cake. Her recipes were more than just meals; they were a symbol of her love and care. She often shared them at church gatherings and family dinners, leaving a legacy of warmth and comfort that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to taste them. Janice's role as a Sunday School teacher was one of her most treasured. Her loving nature and generous spirit made her a favorite among the children, whom she not only taught but also clothed with her thoughtful purchases. Her lessons went beyond the classroom, as she lived by example, embodying the Christian virtues she imparted to her students. Above all, Janice was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a doting grandmother, and a proud great-grandmother. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and her presence was a source of stability and joy. Her unwavering support and boundless love created an unbreakable bond that will endure through the generations. Janice's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of kindness, compassion, and faith, and she will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and the community she so lovingly served. The family would like to thank Silver Oaks Health Campus for the excellent care provided to Janice in the last year of her life. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at The Sanctuary Church, with Pastor Matthew Johnson officiating. Calling hours will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, also at the church. Burial will be at Springer Cemetery following the service. Janice is survived by her husband; children, Michael (Melea) Skinner, of Burnet, TX., Susie (Johnny) Taylor, of Columbus, and Judy Walls, of Bloomington; siblings, Jerry Wilson, Jeff (Debbie) Wilson, Judy Kay Baxter, and Delora (Larry) Antle; 7 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Everly Rose Fullerton; and son-in-law, David E Walls.
