Dorothy Kentzel

Dorothy Sweitzer Kentzel went to be with her Lord on March 29, 2012. She was born March 26, 1917, in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of Andrew and Katherine Mohnk Sweitzer. She married Harry E. Kentzel on August 2, 1942. He predeceased her on February 14, 1949. A strong and loving woman, Dorothy was devoted to her three daughters and raised them to know and love the Lord. She received her bachelor?s degree in home economics education from State University of New York at Buffalo, a master?s degree in family relationships from Cornell University and a second master?s degree from Canisius College. She was instrumental in developing the New York State Regents Home Economics syllabus and was chair of the department of home economics at Cleveland Hill High School where she taught for 34 years. She was a lifelong member of Williamsville United Methodist Church, a member of the National Embroiderers? Guild and the Zonta Club. As a lifelong learner, she mastered furniture building and refinishing, millinery and golf. She was an avid antique collector and enjoyed playing Canasta and bridge. After her retirement she immersed herself in volunteer work that included Meals on Wheels, Millard Fillmore Hospital, St. Rita?s Home for Disabled Children and being Republican clerk for New York State elections. In 2011 Dorothy moved from Williamsville, NY, to Columbus, IN, to be near her family. She will be deeply missed by her daughters and their husbands, Kandy and Dale Neil of Stowe, VT, Donna and Jim Marcille of Centennial, CO, and Gretchen and Steve Fisher of Columbus, IN; nine grandchildren, Kate (Ken) Hayes, Eric Neil, Kelly (Mike) Festi, Scott (Martha) Marcille, Kristi (Glenn) Smith, Ty Fisher, Traci (Mike) Grasso, Brett (Nicci) Fisher and Cole Fisher; and 10 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL: A celebration of Dorothy?s life will be held at Four Seasons Retirement Center Chapel on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., with Chaplain Phyllis Hawkins and Stephen Fisher officiating.
