Betty Eileen Miller, cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the age of 100, in Batesville, Indiana. Born in Columbus, Indiana on February 10, 1925, to Clarence Arthur and Dessa Edele Davis Jenkins, Betty lived a life marked by grace, kindness, and creativity. Betty's love story began when she married Nathan Eugene Miller on September 15, 1944, a union that lasted until his passing on September 17, 1995. She continued to blossom as a matriarch, nurturing her family with unwavering love and support. She is survived by her devoted children, Janice Eileen Brougher (Duane C.), Timothy Miller (Jane), and Lloyd Miller (Kimberly), and her brother's loving companion, Jean Jenkins. Betty was a proud grandmother to Bradley, Brian, and Christopher Brougher; Alexander and Benjamin Miller; Natalie Carrier; Amie Jordan; Arika Asher; Alyssa Meek; and Tyler Miller. Her legacy continues through her 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, each a testament to her profound influence. Though predeceased by her parents, her husband Nathan, a brother Leon Olin Jenkins as well as her companion George Reed, Betty's memory is a beacon of familial warmth. Professionally, Betty took pride in her work at the Bartholomew County Treasurer's Office, where she demonstrated remarkable dedication and work ethic. Her community involvement was a reflection of her commitment to service, as she engaged wholeheartedly in numerous organizations. Betty was a proud member of the First Christian Church and active in groups such as the Red Hat Society, Modern Homemakers Home Economics Club, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Alpha Lambda Chapter #2785, Business & Professional Women's Club, The National Federation Women's Club, Inc., and the Columbus Regional Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer Service. She also valued the fellowship and activities at the Mill Race Senior Center and previously supported the American Legion Auxiliary. An avid traveler and camper, Betty also had a passion for crocheting and crafts, often bringing her creations to life in vivid colors and intricate patterns. Her talents were celebrated through multiple awards won at the 4-H Fair, showcasing her artistic spirit. Those who knew Betty best would describe her as kind, thoughtful, and immensely creative. Her gentle presence and thoughtfulness left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She embodied the words of American poet Maya Angelou, "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud," bringing joy and light to many lives. A funeral service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Milo Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services Saturday. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Garland Brook Cemetery.
