It would be a mistake to think that "traditional services" means boring services where families don't get a choice about much of anything. One of the most important components of our service philosophy at Jewell-Rittman is that each and every service should be approached as just that: unique.

A traditional service, in broad terms, consists of a viewing, a visitation or wake and a graveside service. That is the basic routine. From there, there is a nearly endless set of choices and options.

Two major things must be considered when choosing a traditional service. First, a family must look at and assess their finances. Second, they need to choose from their options based on that financial assessment.

We cannot stress enough that finances, though they are the first thing to consider, are not the greatest indicator of the quality of service a family can and will have. We provide many economical options. We are here to help, to guide families, to provide the best service for the best price. Overpriced funerals are unfair and unnecessary and completely outside the philosophy of our family and our family business. So, again, while finances are the first thing to consider, they needn't be a limiting factor.

After assessing the finances of the family, we can lead the family through the various choices they need to make concerning service. The following items must be decided upon location, casket, burial location and set-up.

A funeral can be held anywhere, as permitted by law. We have conducted services in parks, country clubs, homes or churches. Each visitation we have performed has either taken place at our facilities or in a church. They can be led by a family member, a church member, one of our family members or anyone else. We will help the family decide on the best casket for the occasion and then help decide on a burial plot if one is not pre-chosen.

As for set-up, this is where the imagination of the family really comes into play. Family members are welcome to bring in, within reason, anything that they feel reflects the deceased which can include, but is not limited to, handy-work, pictures, printed materials or other personalized items. Such things as lighting, flowers and the set-up of the service and visitation are also at the discretion of the family or we can do it for you.
